In the watch industry, at least, they prepare for it like nothing else.

Since it was discussed the other day how elegantly and timelessly IWC solved the presentation of the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, or the year of the wooden dragon on the Portugieser model, let’s see what it is like when the Swiss watch industry failed to do this so delicately.

For this occasion, Ulysse Nardin launched the Blast Tourbillon model with a dragon. The 45 mm gold case, bordered by exciting edges and planes, and the black DLC-set titanium bezel are exciting in themselves, as is the skeletonized structure without a dial. At the same time, it is relatively difficult to spot them at first glance, so attention is distracted by the dragon statue coiling under the pointers. The automatic mechanism with a three-day power reserve is also a more serious piece than the one IWC rolled out, although they ask for more: the watch, which will be produced in only 88 copies, costs 35 million forints.

Hublot also displays the dragon in a very spectacular way – it’s true, this is expected in relation to them, neither restraint nor cheapness usually comes up in connection with the brand. They asked a Chinese artist, Chen Fenwan, to decorate their Spirit of Big Bang model. On the dial of the watch with a titanium case, the dragon is displayed using the colors white, pink and blue, shifted in several spaces, formed from several layers. The barrel-shaped case shape and the omission of the hour markers are not good for legibility, but again, that’s just something that Hublot is happy to sacrifice.

88 copies will also be made of this – this number is free of far-right associations in Asia, rather it is a symbol of luck and prosperity. For a Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon, they ask about HUF ten million.
