Valentine’s Day is like a romantic mixtape between Roman history and the Middle Ages. In the 3rd century, Valentin de Terni, a rebel priest, played clandestine Cupids by blessing marriages under the nose of Emperor Claudius II, who was not at all in the love mood. Then Papa Gelasius I arrives in reformer mode, saying “Stop the pagan Lupercalia!” and transforming February 14 into a Christian holiday in homage to our beloved martyr, Saint Valentine. In the Middle Ages, Chaucer and his coterie of poets said “Hey, it’s time for the lovebirds!”, starting the tradition of romantic notes. And since then, we’ve been playing it with heart-shaped chocolates and bouquets of red roses, hoping that Cupid doesn’t miss his target!

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the UGC cinema invites you to watch one of the most famous romantic films, Pretty Woman.
