Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych spoke earlier in the day of “the heaviest attack” on the port city since the start of the war, some five months ago.

BBC News describes Vadatursky as one of the richest businessmen in Ukraine. His company Nibulon specializes in the production and export of wheat, barley and maize. The group has its own fleet and shipyard, and is located in Mykolaiv.

Vadatursky and his wife were killed by bombs falling on their home in the city. President Zelensky calls Vadatursky’s death “a great loss for all of Ukraine”.

Rockets many in Mykolaiv and Nikopol

In addition to homes, the heavy shelling also hit schools and sports complexes by a total of twelve rockets. Three other people were injured, the mayor said.

Nikopol, another southern city in the country, was also bombarded with rockets on Sunday. About fifty rockets were fired at the city. One person is said to have been injured.
