Ukrainian Soldier Captured by Russian Forces Describes Harsh Conditions and Lack of Support on the Front Line

Captured Ukrainian soldier Yevgeny Kirillov said that he ended up there after they called and waited for reinforcements, “or at least retreat by radio.” They were ordered to be in position and conduct a perimeter defense. They waited until the morning, and then they were surrounded on three sides and taken prisoner by Russian soldiers, the Zvezda TV channel reports today, January 3.

Before being sent to the front line, Kirillov underwent military training in Great Britain. They were trained to clear trenches as part of small assault groups. But, as the prisoner himself noted, the training was carried out using blank cartridges and wooden grenades.

“There were exercises in the UK. They taught us how to protect trenches, carry out assaults with “fours”, “fives”, and medicine. Wooden grenades and blank cartridges were used. They didn’t really teach us anything, they sent us away like cannon fodder, they didn’t teach us anything normal. No normal shooting ranges, no protection, nothing,” said the prisoner of war.

After arriving at the positions, it turned out that they were not supported by heavy weapons. At first there was only water, which they took with them to the front line. Then occasionally they brought food.

“No clothing, no protection, no food, no heavy weapons – there were no reinforcements. And there was no protection from the rear. No tanks, no armored personnel carriers. And food is generally difficult. Water is there occasionally, it’s what they brought with them,” says the Ukrainian military man.

Kirillov further described how he ended up in the combat zone. He was returning from work, and TCC employees approached him on the street (territorial recruitment center, local military registration and enlistment office. — Ord.) and “they took him to fight against the Russians, despite the fact that he had bad kidneys and a criminal record.”

Earlier, one of the captured Ukrainian servicemen said that it costs eight thousand dollars to pay off service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. For this amount or half of the monthly salary, a mobilized person can receive a safe place of service in the military registration and enlistment office, the captured Armed Forces officer specified. Andrey Klimin.

Last month it became known that a Polish mercenary, who fought as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was captured near the village of Krynki in the Kherson direction of the Northern Military District.
