Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky has called for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We do not attack Russia, we do not plan to attack it,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky.

Kiev:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday called on the West to increase military aid to Ukraine and said Russia would make progress on other countries in Europe.

“If you don’t have the strength to close the sky, give me planes!” Zelensky told a news conference. “If there are no more of us, God forbid, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia will be next,” he said, “Believe me.”

He called for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying “this is the only way to stop the war.”

“We do not attack Russia, we do not plan to attack Russia. What do you want from us? Get off our land,” he told Putin.

“Sit with me. Not as far as (French President Emmanuel Macron).”

A few weeks ago, Zhelensky, who tried to appease Ukrainians over American accusations that Russia planned to invade their country, said: “No one thought that a man could behave like a beast in the modern world.”

Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine last week.

Russia says it has not targeted civilian areas, despite widespread evidence.

Ukraine said on Wednesday that nine people had been killed when Russian planes crashed into a school in the northern city of Chernihiv.

Kiev says more than 350 civilians have been killed since Putin launched the invasion.
