The statement comes without Budonov giving any concrete evidence to support the claims.

It is not the first time
This is by no means the first time that Ukraine has made such a statement about the Russian president. Rumors about Putin’s use of doppelgangers have been raised several times and were a topic even long before the war in Ukraine.
In an interview with Tax in 2020, Putin admitted he was offered a doppelganger in the early 2000s, but quickly rejected that proposal.
In July Budanov claimed that Putin sent a doppelganger to meet with the Iranian president, and in early August, Ukrainian general Vadym Skibitsky spoke to the Telegraph and shared similar thoughts.
– He uses a lot of doubles and it is sometimes difficult to find out if he is the real Putin or someone to replace him, Skibitsky told the British newspaper.
Poor health?
Skibitsky at the time claimed that Russia used doppelgangers because Putin’s health was very precarious. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied the president’s health claims.

Budanov does not want to comment on the president’s health condition in the weekend interview, but still questions whether the real Putin is still making the decisions.
