Ukrainian Energy System Suffers Power Loss as Imports from EU Increase to Compensate

The Ukrainian energy system continues to lose power. More power plant units fail than are returned from repair. The reduction in capacity is compensated by imports from the EU, which increased to almost 4 GWh per day.

“At thermal power plants, 4 units went into emergency repairs within 24 hours. 2 units are included after repair. In the eastern region, one of the thermal power plants has undergone emergency repairs,” Ukrenergo reports. According to him, there will be enough electricity to supply the country.

However, the deficit is covered by growing imports.

“Electricity is imported almost every day from Slovakia, Romania and Moldova. The total volume is 3981 MWh, with a maximum power in individual hours of up to 468 MW,” the operator of the Ukrainian energy system reports.
