Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky | Russian saboteurs led by secret agent arrested

A group of Russian saboteurs led by an agent from Russia’s secret service were arrested in the border area between Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary, reports the Ukrainian news agency Unian.

The group of 25 men is said to have been commissioned to carry out sabotage operations in the government quarter in Kyiv and in other parts of the country.

The plan was allegedly to pretend to be members of the Ukrainian armed forces to get to the capital. The messages cannot be verified independently.

The Ukrainian government has repeatedly claimed that Russian groups have tried to reach Kyiv to kill Zelensky.

Zelensky calls for a continued fight against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj asked in a video speech late Monday night that Ukrainians do what they can to protect the country. Ha asked for the invaders to be expelled so that “Ukraine survives and we can live with her in freedom and peace.”

He referred to the Russian soldiers as “tourists with tanks”. The soldiers are “slaves of Russian propaganda”, which has changed their conscience, the Ukrainian president claimed.

“They have never seen thousands of people who are not afraid of them,” he said, referring to an incident in Kherson on Monday. Russian soldiers are said to have opened fire on civilians protesting against the Russian occupation.

Zelensky said that only grief awaits Russian soldiers facing civilian Ukrainians. Ukraine is not Russia, he said.

– Resistance does not need to be organized here. For Ukrainians, resistance is an innate trait, he said.

The fighting in Mariupol continues

The battle for Mariupol continues after Ukrainian forces rejected a Russian call to lay down their arms and leave the city.

On Monday, street fighting was reported in the strategically important port city on the Azov Sea, at the same time as it was shelled from land, air and sea.

Nearly 350,000 people are still trapped in the besieged city, without water and electricity.

On Sunday, it was reported that an art school was hit in a Russian attack, but it is still unclear what happened to several hundred civilians who, according to Ukrainian authorities, were staying in shelters under the building.

– No buildings left

Those who have managed to escape from the city say that the destruction is enormous.

– There are no buildings there anymore, says Maria Fiodorova (77).

On Monday, she crossed the border into Poland after a five-day journey.

Olga Nikitina, who arrived in Lviv in western Ukraine on Sunday, says that the windows in her apartment were broken in the shooting, and that it was minus degrees indoors.

– There were fights in all the streets. Every house became a goal, she says.
