KIEV – Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are currently stalled. Ukraine’s Chief Negotiator Davyd Arakhamia revealed the reasons for Kiev’s refusal to negotiate.

Davyd Arakhamia described Kiev’s current negotiating position as weak.

“Our negotiating position is actually quite weak, so we don’t want to sit at the table if we are in this position. We need to turn it around in some way,” Arakhamia told news outlet Axios.

He noted that despite the frozen negotiations, the Ukrainian delegation held telephone talks with the Russian side once or twice a week.

“Both sides clearly recognize that at this time, there is no place for negotiations,” Arakhamia said.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. The countries have held several rounds of talks since but have failed to reach any agreement.

“There is no dialogue between Russia and the United States regarding Ukraine,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Sputnik.
