Ukraine and rebels in the east trade prisoners

Ukraine and the pro-Russian rebels in the east have exchanged prisoners. The rebels release 55 prisoners, while the Ukrainian government lets 87 prisoners go.

After the exchange there are no more prisoners on either side. The exchange is a result of it agreement that was closed early this month. Since then a cease-fire has been in place, but firing is still occasional.

In Paris, Russian President Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky reached an agreement that should lead to the end of the war in the east of the country, which has been going on for five years. In addition, more than 13,000 people died.

The exchange takes place at a checkpoint on the border of Ukraine and the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic near the town of Horlivka:
