UK Reports Bird Flu Outbreak

VIVAPlague bird flu Highly pathogenic H5 was reported to have emerged in a small farm unit in English center, as confirmed by the ministry of livestock on Monday 8 November 2021.

All birds in the area that have been exposed, near Alcester in Warwickshire, will be destroyed.

The outbreak comes less than a week after Britain declared a national Avian Flu Prevention Zone, ordering livestock and bird owners to tighten biosecurity measures.

The H5N1 strain has previously been confirmed in backyard chicken flocks in north Wales, among birds caught in eastern Scotland and in bird rescue centers in central England.

The virus has spread across Europe over the past few weeks. Outbreaks have sprung up in a number of countries, including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Denmark. (Ant/Between)
