UK car production down 11.3% in April

In the UK, 60,554 cars were produced in April, down 11.3% from a year earlier, according to the British Automobile Manufacturers and Dealers Association (SMMT).

The decline is mainly explained by the semiconductor deficit and the negative impact of the Ukrainian war on supply networks.

Production of cars for export decreased by 20.8% in April, while production of cars for the domestic market increased by 60.1%.

The UK was reported to have produced 859,575 cars last year, the lowest level since 1956.

SMMT forecasts that car production in the UK will grow by 19.7% this year to more than one million units.
