The Champions League can only be resumed when the national leagues are played again. This also applies to the Europa League.

The morning of the D-Day in Nyon, on which no one was present at Lake Geneva apart from the UEFA bosses around President Aleksander Ceferin and Secretary General Theodore Theodoridis, the primary focus was on the clubs: How to continue with the leagues? How to continue with Champions and Europe’s League?
–
In order to be able to provide useful advice, you had to know: are you still trying to make the European Championship go up from June 12th to July 12th? Or will it be postponed. Well: The decision has been made, but still has to be approved by the Uefa Executive Committee. This takes place immediately after the big conference. The following proposal is made to the Executive Committee:
–
To postpone the EM by 2021. As BLICK wrote two weeks ago: the only practical solution.
–
And the national championships and the European Cup?
–
Obviously, Uefa wants the national championships to resume operations at the same time, in order to be able to restart Champions and Europa League operations in parallel. Of course, whether and when this can happen depends solely on the development of the corona.
–
However, the championships must end by June 30th. If this does not work, the championships will be canceled. This scenario is becoming more and more likely as the Corona peak is only expected in June in certain countries, such as England.
–
Either way, two working groups are now being set up: one that discusses the calendar and consists of two representatives from the clubs, the Uefa and the leagues. And a working group that deals with the financial consequences. Their composition is not yet clear.
