Ubisoft seems to be trying to make original games

VGC shared interesting information about the changes in Ubisoft.

VGC notes that for two decades, creative solutions at Ubisoft and series-related solutions were supervised by the so-called editorial team, a team from Paris with around 100 members, which made recommendations on all aspects of the game, from game design to script. This team has a huge impact on developers from all parts of Ubisoft.

It was the editorial team that prompted Ubisoft to develop games in the open world, add online elements to projects, and insisted that when developing the narrative in games, the elements of the real world were taken as the basis.

However, after the insufficiently successful financial performance of The Division 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, released last year, Ubisoft made changes to the work of the editorial team, which will become “more flexible”.

According to VGC sources, Ubisoft wants to make a variety of games.

According to VGC, seven vice presidents will appear in the editorial team, each of whom will be responsible for the development of a separate franchise and make key decisions. The head of the editorial team, Serge Haskoyt, will retain his post, but his influence on projects will be significantly reduced.

Due to the fact that Haskoyt’s deputies will have more opportunities, the games will differ significantly from each other, Ubisoft believes. In addition, developers will have more creative freedom.

“Previously, the editing system was such that often the ideas of one or two people were used in all games. Therefore, our projects were so much alike – we just copied the same opinion, ”said an anonymous source at VGC.

Among the vice presidents of the editorial group is the creator of Child of Light Patrick Proud and Splinter Cell developer Maxim Beland, who returned to Ubisoft from Epic Games.

Ubisoft previously postponed the release dates for Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six: Quarantine and Gods & Monsters, and is also rumored to have canceled a project similar to Destiny.
