The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the law “On the application of special economic personal measures and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to athletes of the Russian Federation and other states”. The corresponding decision was voted at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday 13 December.
The resolution, which was registered by the people’s deputies of Ukraine, includes 56 athletes. Of them 55 – citizens of the Russian Federationas well as a citizen of Ukraine – Anatoly Tymoschuk.
The list includes athletes who “systematically and actively support the war against Ukraine, legitimize the military invasion and genocide of Ukrainians by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.”
The sanctions imposed on the athletes will last 10 years. They provide, in particular, for blocking the assets of persons on the territory of Ukraine, limiting commercial operations, as well as enforcing bans on entering the territory of Ukraine, depriving Ukraine of state recognition and other forms of celebration . In total, the list of sanctions includes 18 items.
It should be noted that with the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Tymoshchuk has not expressed a position on the military actions of the Russian Federation and continues to work in the country (one of the coaches of the Russian “Zenith”).
