Two thirds of imported goods go abroad again NOW

Around 60 percent of the goods received by the Netherlands in 2018 were then transported abroad again, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reported Monday.

In total, the Netherlands received 628 billion kilos of goods from abroad. In addition, 561 billion kilos of goods went abroad.

Statistics Netherlands makes a distinction between transit and re-export. Goods that are transported remain in foreign hands, but are transported or stored within the Netherlands. In the case of re-export, the goods also temporarily come into Dutch hands.

More than 40 percent of the goods are originally from outside of Europe. Often the goods are loaded within the European Union on a means of transport to the Netherlands. Of the goods that left the Netherlands in 2018, three quarters were unloaded in another EU country.
