In the middle of September, not one, but two stages of the World Rally Cross Championship will take place in Riga, the organizers of the competition report on Friday.

Due to the Covid-19 virus, the Monster Energy International Automobile Federation (FIA) World Rallycross Championship has been forced to make several changes to the season this year – the dates, sequence and venues of the stages have already been changed. The changes that have just been announced envisage that the “Neste World RX of Riga” competition planned for September 19-20 on the Biķernieki track will host not one, but two “World RX” stages in one weekend.

“2020 has brought many challenges that have required bold and responsible solutions. Both the championship organizer, stage organizers and athletes are interested in a full-fledged World RX season, so we have the opportunity to hold two stages of the World Championship in one weekend – that is twice as many test rides, twice as much live TV time and significantly more fan attention all over the world, “says the competition organizer Raimonds Strokšs.

“It is now known that the fifth stage of the season will take place on Saturday of the race week, and on Sunday – the sixth stage. These are significant changes, which are followed by active work on precise daily plans. one “Projekt E” cup stage for cars with electric motors, but due to these changes on the Bikernieki track this year there will be no stage of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for front-wheel drive “Super1600” cars. “

The organizers of “Neste World RX of Riga” inform that the date of the event remains the same – the competition is scheduled for September 19-20, but due to the restrictions on the distribution of Covid-19 in the country and the rules of gathering, ticket sales for the event are temporarily suspended.

“At the moment, the rules that the organizers of sports competitions will have to follow in September have not been made public. We do not know what the number of visitors is allowed or what other restrictions, so we have suspended ticket sales until these requirements are known. We will follow the current restrictions in the country and work with the responsible authorities to develop the exact course of the event and find a way to organize the flow of teams and fans on the Bikernieki track, which would ensure safe racing for everyone, “says Stroks.

The stage of the FIA World Rally Cross Championship in Riga in 2020 can be organized thanks to the support provided by the Riga City Council, the title sponsor of the competition “Neste”, sponsor “Pafbet”, as well as the partner Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD).

The first championship competition is scheduled for August 20-23 in Sweden. At this stage, all rallycross car classes will go on the track, including the new “Projekt E” or electric car class.

The next stages will be held in Riga (September 18-20), Belgium (October 2-4), Portugal (October 9-11), Spain (October 16-18), Abu Dhabi (October 29-18). October 31), but the end of the season is expected in Germany (December 11-13).

Abu Dhabi is scheduled to run two rallycross stages (October 30-31), but the end of the season is scheduled for December 12 and 13 in Germany at the Nürburgring.
