Two Italian volcanoes erupted simultaneously – Etna and Stromboli (video)

Two volcanoes erupted in Italy today – Mount Etna on the large southern island of Sicily and Stromboli on the small island of the same name north of Sicily, DPA reported.

Etna is activated first. Lava began to flow this morning on the southeast side of the volcano’s crater. The streams started from 3300 meters above sea level and stopped at 2800 meters above sea level.

Stromboli then began spewing ashes shortly after noon, the smoke reaching two kilometers into the sky. Streams of lava and ash reached the shores of the small island.

In both eruptions, no one was injured or damaged.

The activation of the two volcanoes is not uncommon, DPA notes. In February, Mount Etna caused the closure of Catania Airport. The last activation was at the beginning of last month.
