Two Danish journalists wounded by gunfire – NRK Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

Journalist Stefan Weichert and photographer Emil Filtenborg Mikkelsen were on a reportage trip near the city of Ohtyrka, in eastern Ukraine, when they were hit by gunfire.

They were shot when they were in a car, but were quickly sent to hospitals in the area.

They both have bulletproof equipment, writes Ekstra Bladet.

The journalist and photographer has lived in Ukraine for two years and has reported for Ekstra Bladet, other Danish newspapers and international media as freelancers. Since the crisis escalated, they have only worked for Ekstra Bladet.

– We are happy to be alive

– We are happy to be alive. We are well aware of the circumstances and hope we can come home soon, says Stefan Weichert on behalf of the two to Ekstra Bladet.

The newsroom and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are now working to evacuate the two.

– Our first priority is to get Emil and Stefan to safety and then evacuated, and until then we have no further comments, says editor in chief of Ekstra Bladet, Knud Brix.
