Twitter decided to impose a new policy for viewing tweets, as users will be required to have an account on the platform to view any tweet.
Twitter owner Elon Musk on Friday described the move as a “temporary emergency measure”.
Users who attempt to view a Tweet will be required to register for an account or log into their account to view their favorite Tweets.
Musk said in a tweet: “We were exposed to data looting to the extent that it affected the service we provide to ordinary users!”
Musk has previously expressed his displeasure with artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT, which uses Twitter data to train its language models.
“We will definitely take legal action against those who stole our data and look forward to seeing them in court in two to three years from now,” he said.
In a letter addressed to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, in May asked the tech giant to conduct an audit of its use of Twitter content, alleging that the Windows developer had breached an agreement on the social media company’s data use, according to reports. Reuters.
The company has begun a set of measures to bring back advertisers who left the platform under Musk’s ownership and increase subscription revenue via Twitter Blue verification tags.
Earlier in the month, Twitter announced plans to focus on video and commerce to revitalize the social media company’s business beyond digital advertising.
Twitter has also begun charging users for access to an Application Programming Interface (API), usually used by third-party apps and researchers.
