Twitter: Super Follow accounts for a paid subscription

Twitter no longer wants to rely solely on advertising to make money. The social network has unveiled a series of initiatives that will allow it to double its income by 2023.

The main measure, unveiled on the occasion of analysts’ day, is a new mechanism called “Super Follow”. Subscribers to a profile will be able to pay, if they choose, for exclusive content. It could help an artist monetize their creations, or a publication to monetize unreleased content.

Exclusive content for cash

Twitter gave the example of paid access ($ 4.99 per month) to a Super Follow account that not only offers exclusive tweets, but also a newsletter, access to the community of this account, tips, etc. The social network did not specify whether it would take a commission on these paid subscriptions which are not reminiscent of Patreon. But it’s hard to imagine that wouldn’t be the case.

Likewise, Twitter has not indicated when this novelty will be implemented. But that’s not the only idea running through the minds of Twitter executives. Over the course of the year, it will offer three types of accounts: one for general public users like today, one for bots and a third for businesses. Enough to improve the readability of exchanges on Twitter, and above all an opportunity to offer additional functions to companies.

Rather, many waited for a subscription to remove the obtrusive advertising and suggested accounts and tweets that were generally irrelevant. Others are even willing to pay to be able to edit, correct or modify a tweet after it is published! But that will probably never happen.
