Twitter is testing reactions to tweets with emojis

Twitter is doing a lot of testing right now, with the latest one being to have reactions to tweets in the form of emojis. No more simple I like with a red heart.

The test with reactions to tweets in the form of emojis will begin in Turkey, before eventually expanding to other countries. Users will be able to choose the thinking emoji, the one with a tear, the one who cries with laughter, the clapping hands and the red heart. The experimentation is only going to take place for a while, at least in Turkey. Twitter does not yet say if the test will also be short in other countries.

This system of reactions is reminiscent of the one that already exists on Facebook. The social network explained at the time that the Like button could not always be appropriate depending on the status. Put I like when a person announces the death of a loved one… not terrible. Twitter seeks here to offer a similar experience in order to go beyond the simple like.

It should be noted in any case that Twitter seems to rely solely on positivity. There are no negative emoji, like an angry emoji or a thumbs down. The social network informed The Verge that he decided not to choose this type of negative emojis because respondents said “Fear of receiving negative reactions to some of their thoughts”. A valid concern given the toxicity that many conversations on Twitter can have.
