Twitter adds BTC and ETH price indexes to its search feature

Social media platform Twitter has added a new encryption feature that allows users to look up the price of bitcoin (bitcoins) and ether (ETH) by simply typing their names or tickers into the search tab.

This new feature is an enhancement to $Cashtags and was announced by the Twitter Business account on December 21st.

The account said that whenever a stock, exchange-traded fund, or major cryptocurrency symbol with $ in front was tweeted, viewers could see a clickable link that took them to the search results, which now included charts of the prices for these symbols.

He also noted that simply searching for the ticker symbol, whether it’s a stock or a cryptocurrency, will bring up the price chart as well.

Shortly thereafter, on December 22, Twitter CEO Elon Musk retweeted the announcement of the new feature, saying it was “one of many improvements to financial products on Twitter.”

It appears that BTC and ETH are the only two cryptocurrencies with price charts at the time of writing. Other major cryptocurrencies, including Dogecoin (DOGE), dear to Musk, were not kept.

However, Twitter Business said it plans to expand symbol coverage and improve user experience “in the coming weeks.”

Cointelegraph found that a number of variations of Bitcoin such as “$Bitcoin”, “Bitcoin price” and “BTC price” also pop up the price chart, with corresponding searches also working for ether.

On Dec. 21, blogger Jane Mastodon Wong told her 158,700 Twitter followers that the charts came from trading analytics platform TradingView.

The price charts also include a Clickable View link to Robinhood in the bottom left corner, suggesting that the retail trading platform has partnered with Twitter for this integration.

Users are then taken to Robinhood’s price chart for ETH, which provides an additional link below that says Sign up to buy ether. The same links are also provided for bitcoin.

However, no details about Twitter’s partnership with Robinhood have been disclosed.

Integrating Twitter price charts can likely lead to increased traffic to Robinhood, as #Bitcoin is tweeted about 120,000 times a day, according to data from BitInfoCharts.

Conversely, #Ethereum hovers around 25,000.

Earlier this month, rumors started circulating about it Twitter could create its own native cryptocurrency, Twitter Coin, which would be used for payments on the platform. The rumors began on Dec. 4, about a week after Musk teased what Twitter 2.0 could look like, including the possible integration of cryptocurrency payments into Twitter.

But Mr. Musk’s future on Twitter appears to be at a crossroads after the controversial figure asked to Twitter users if he were to “leave Twitter head? in a December 19 Twitter poll – with 57.5 of 17,502,391 voters responding in the affirmative.

Moss a added he’ll later step down as CEO as soon as he finds someone crazy enough to take the job!
