TV in UHD: 4K TVs are becoming standard – but a big problem remains

The figures show that the technology required for UHD content is now available in a large number of German households. However: content in ultra-high definition quality is in short supply, especially in linear TV in this country. Among the channels that can be received via satellite, IPTV or cable, there are only a few that broadcast native UHD material; and usually only for an additional fee.

Channels such as RTL or Pay TV channel Sky offer selected programs in UHD, while HD + has a mixed channel with Ultra HD. The public broadcasters around ARD and ZDF announced a few months ago that the SD standard would be switched off is moved again – when you can count on UHD here is unclear.-

If you want to take advantage of the UHD support of your TV set, you currently have to rely primarily on streaming providers. With Netflix, for example, broadcasting in 4K quality is included in the premium subscription model.
