The new power unit in Turów, built for over PLN 4 billion, was shut down after just one month of operation. Now it turns out that mistakes were made both in the design and commissioning of the power plant – writes “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
The daily reminds that the new unit of the Turów power plant in Bogatynia (Dolnośląskie Voivodeship) operated only for a month. It was put into operation in mid-May and has been closed since June 19. “It turns out that the whole thing is related to a bad design, not suited to the conditions Turów mine and power plant ” – we read.
The newspaper’s informant explains that the new block is not adapted to the quality of coal from the Turów mine. It is too weak for the needs of the new unit. “This is why the filters have clogged and the power plant has been shut down since June 19” – underlines “Wyborcza”. The exhaust fan that maintains the vacuum in the furnace is also to be broken.
The newspaper indicates that the quality of the coal supplied by the Turów mine fell after the collapse of the mining dump in September 2016. “However, the design of the new unit was not changed,” we read.
