turning point after 25 years – Il Tempo

25 years after the murder of trade unionist Mico Geraci, which occurred in Caccamo in 1998, the instigators have a name. The Carabinieri, delegated by the Palermo DDA led by the prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia, served a precautionary custody order in prison on the Trabia bosses, the brothers Pietro and Salvatore Rinella. The numerous investigations carried out, both immediately after the facts, by the Prosecutor’s Office of Termini Imerese and, subsequently, following the declarations of the collaborator of justice Nino Giuffrè, by the Prosecutor’s Office of Palermo, in fact, did not allow the dynamics and the context of the murder. In more recent times, the Anti-Mafia parliamentary commission of the 12th legislature dealt with the case, dedicating a specific investigation to it which then concluded with the transmission of a report to the judicial authorities containing new insights.

The Palermo District Anti-Mafia Directorate gave further impetus to investigative activities to the point of acquiring “unpublished elements of evidence” which allowed both the identification, “with high probability”, of the instigators of the murder and its material executors, and of placing the assassination within the “fundamental strategies of the Cosa Nostra association and, therefore, of its top exponents”.

“It was all expected.” The dossier bomb explodes: unheeded alarms

Mico Geraci was shot dead on 8 October 1998 in front of his home in Caccamo, under the eyes of his wife and son Giovanni. The two members of the Trabia family are already detained and are suspected of having, at the instigation of the Corleonese mafia boss Bernardo Provenzano, commissioned and planned the assassination. The murder was actually carried out by two young people, both of whom were subsequently murdered, one of whom, moreover, was killed by the same recipients of the precautionary order carried out today.
