Aldi, Lidl, Rewe, Edeka and Co. have to dress warmly. More and more foreign food delivery services are entering the German market.
In the Ruhr area, for example, the Dutch online provider Picnic has become a serious competitor for the local supermarkets. “We see our task in bringing the weekly shopping,” said Frederic Knaudt in an interview with CHIP exactly two years ago. The company is now also looking to the Rhineland, connecting urban areas such as Leverkusen and Düsseldorf to the picnic network.
And the Czech supplier Rohlik is also putting pressure on supermarkets. The company has already started in Munich under the name Knuspr. Customers accepted the offer “very well”. The entire Bavarian capital is to be supplied via the 7,500 square meter distribution center.
Express supplier Gorilla’s is also expanding the German delivery area. Consumers can now have groceries delivered to their home from supermarkets in many districts of Berlin, Bremen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart within 10 minutes.
Turkish provider Getir attacks
And a Turkish provider is also expanding its business in Germany. The first purple Getir e-scooters have been rolling on Berlin’s streets and delivering groceries since the middle of the year.
Here, too, the promise applies: groceries are at the customer’s place within a few minutes of ordering. Getir had already founded the German shelf company in February, according to the “Business Insider “.
Now the company is going one step further and implementing the ambitious goals. In Munich, customers can now order products. Other cities including Cologne, Nuremberg, Dortmund and Frankfurt are to follow. In Stuttgart should start the service in the coming year. The Turkish delivery service currently has a company valuation of 7.7 billion US dollars.
The concept is easy to explain: The company is one of the most important players in Turkey. In addition to groceries, the company also delivers meals from restaurants and snacks from the butcher, kiosk or the local bakery.
In early 2021, Getir began its expansion in Europe starting in the UK, followed by the Netherlands in May, France and Germany in June, Spain and Italy in September, Portugal in October and the United States in November.
