Colombian cyclist Nairo Alexander Quintana suffered two heavy falls on Monday, April 11, while competing in the second stage of the Tour of Turkey.

Quintana went to the ground with 37 kilometers remaining to the finish line after Alpecin Fenix’s Jay Vine lost control of his bike and pushed Nairo, who went off the road and fell into the bushes.

However, Nairo suffered a mishap again in the final stretch, less than 4 kilometers from the finish line. The boyacense went to the ground and ended up with some other bicycles on top of him, so he wasted time and presented a series of burns on the left side of his body.

After the day, the Arkéa-Samsic team released an official medical report confirming that Nairo will start the third day on Tuesday.

“Nairo Quintana, who fell 3.4 kilometers from the finish, suffered serious skin abrasions all over his left side and back. He will be at the start of stage 3.”

On the other hand, Dayer Quintana also presented injuries and will continue in the test.

Nairo Quintana continues to compete in the Tour of Turkey despite the falls he suffered in the second stage. The day was held between Cesme and Izmir, a 117.9-kilometre route with a sprint finish that left the Belgian as the winner, Jasper Philipsen, who also leads the general standings, in which the Colombian climbed two places and now ranks 78th.

A quiet day for the Colombian rider from Arkéa who finished in 77th place and is getting ready for this Wednesday’s stage, which will have the first summit finish with a first-class climb. Along with Nairo are also Brandon Rojas (138), Jhojan García (92) and his brother Dayer Quintana (105).

Quintana’s team lost Bouhanni and Ledanois in the second stage due to a couple of crashes. Despite the absences, the Colombian remains the leader in search of the title. Although the difference of two minutes is wide with the Belgian in the mountain stages, he could discount to get into the fight for the podium.

This Monday, the Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana suffered several mishaps in what was the second stage of the Tour of Turkey, a competition in which the Boyacá added his third title of the season.

In the first instance, the Colombian runner had his first scare of the day at kilometer 37 when the Jay Vine of the squad, Alpecin Fenix, lost control of his bike on the asphalt, tripping over Nairo who received the full weight of his colleague to fall into the bushes.

This mishap did not have major inconveniences for the coffee grower who got up quickly and joined the competition.

This Monday stage 2 of the Tour of Turkey was run, between Selçuk (Efes) and Alaçatı, a route that included 158 kilometers with an intermediate sprint and a third category mountain pass. The day started normally after Sunday’s victory for Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal), who was unable to maintain first place overall.

On the second day of competition, victory went to Kaden Groves (Team BikeExchange-Jayco) with a time of 4:02:11, which was enough for him to rise to first place overall. Ewan moved into third position, while second is Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix).

As for the Colombian quota in this race, unfortunately Nairo Quintana suffered a serious accident this Monday, April 11, when there were only four kilometers left to reach the finish line. His brother Dayer, with whom he shares a team at Arkéa Samsic, was also affected in the crash.

The Belgian Jasper Philipsen won the third stage of the Tour of Turkey and is the new leader, after a day that took place between Ceþme and Ýzmir (Karþýyaka), of 117 kilometers, in which the Colombian Nairo Quintana climbed some positions in the general and is already in position 78, 2:06 behind the first.
