Bodnar stressed that Turkey joins in principle only to the sanctions imposed by the UN.

“Turkey joins in principle only the sanctions imposed by the UN – this sanctions policy is supported. Unfortunately, we have had this situation since 2014. We are constantly in dialogue with the Turkish side, but its position, even from the time when the first sanctions were introduced, has not changed,” he said.

He also stressed that this sanctions position does not mean that Turkey does not support Ukraine.

“This does not mean that Turkey does not support Ukraine. On the contrary. We have a fairly serious layer of assistance received from Turkey. We have serious political support – Turkey’s efforts to mediate, to help in dialogue with the aggressor country. Of course, this, with from our point of view, causes some concern, and every time we talk about it in a frank dialogue with them,” the ambassador stressed.

The diplomat also noted that not joining the sanctions does not mean that someone can use Turkey to circumvent these sanctions.

“There is a certain track that does not suit us, about which we say that this is the wrong direction. But on the other hand, we understand their interests. There is a parallel track – Ukrainian-Turkish relations, which have their own characteristics, their own character. We cannot use them to sacrifice just to fight the Russian-Turkish track, so it’s more important for us to have a useful and profitable relationship (from trade, to people staying here, humanitarian aid, and some other things) than just to quarrel over their policy, which is such and which we understand,” the ambassador said.
