Turkey Denies Armenian Combat Jet Shots

ANKARAArmenia accused F-16 fighter jets of belonging Turkey shot down an Armenian fighter in Armenian airspace, killing the pilot.

However Armenia could not show evidence of the allegations. Turkey and Azerbaijan says the allegations are absolutely untrue.

Hundreds of people have been reported killed and hundreds of others injured since fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh last Sunday.

Nagorno-Karabakh is a fractional territory within Azerbaijan but is administered by ethnicity Armenia and supported by Armenia. The territory split from Azerbaijan in war in the 1990s, but is not recognized by any country as an independent republic.

The war can drag regional powers, namely Russia and Turkey. Russia has a defense alliance with Armenia. Meanwhile, Turkey supports ethnic Turks in Azerbaijan.

An Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman said the Armenian Sukhoi Su-25 was on military duty when it was shot down by an F-16 fighter jet belonging to the air force Turkey.
