Tunisia reopened on Saturday its air and sea borders, closed since mid-March to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. This decision, taken by the Tunisian government as part of the measures deconfinement, essentially aims to rescue the tourism sector severely impacted by the coronavirus crisis (covid-19).

However, the executive has not yet set a date for the reopening of land borders.

As part of this measure, Tunisia has implemented an anti-Covid-19 tourism health protocol that includes 250 hygiene instructions.

Developed by the Ministry of Tourism, in accordance with WHO recommendations, this protocol, which aims to restore the confidence of tourists and travel agencies, is part of efforts to control the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in tourist establishments and to ensure the health security of employees and tourists.

For tourists and expatriates, the Tunisian government has announced new measures for the entry of arrivals to Tunisia which depend on the epidemiological situation of the countries of residence.

The tourism sector, which represents 20,000 direct jobs, nearly 5,000 indirect jobs, is facing an unprecedented crisis today.

According to the Central Bank of Tunisia, tourist receipts fell by 43%, to only one billion dinars (about 312 million euros) on June 20 last compared to the same period of the year last.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the activity of travel agencies has been enormous with losses of up to 300 million dinars (around 102 million euros), not to mention the shortfall that will be recorded during the high season.
