Trump Indicted: Former President Faces Federal Charges for Allegedly Possessing Classified Documents

“The corrupt Biden administration has informed my lawyers that I have been indicted, allegedly for [dokumentu] Caste falsehood,” Trump wrote on his social networking platform Truth Social.

If true, Trump’s statement would be the first time a current or former president of the United States has faced federal charges.

The US Department of Justice has not yet confirmed Trump’s statement, but some US media, including The New York Times, cited news sources as saying that Trump has indeed been indicted.

Trump also said in his “Truth Social” statement that he was summoned to the federal court in Miami on Tuesday.

“I never thought it possible that something like this could happen to a former President of the United States,” Trump wrote.

A day before Trump’s announcement, US media reported that federal prosecutors had informed the former president’s lawyers that he was the target of an investigation into his possession of classified documents.

In March, Trump became the first current or former US president to be charged with a crime. It involved paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claimed Trump had an affair with her.

Trump, who turns 77 next week, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Special investigator Jack Smith, appointed by US Attorney General Merrick Garland, is investigating classified documents Trump kept at his Mar-A-Lago residence in Florida after leaving the White House.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided the residence last August and seized 11,000 documents.

Trump, who plans to run for president again next year, is also under other investigations. The US Department of Justice is investigating the invasion of the US Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021. Georgia is investigating Trump’s attempts to change the results of the 2020 presidential election, while New York is investigating his business practices.
