The US is not going into a lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. This is what US President Donald Trump said on Friday during his first press conference since Joe Biden was declared the winner of the US presidential election last weekend. He also commented on the election sideways, after appearing to be nearly speaking. “Time will tell who will take office in January”, it said.

“This government will under no circumstances put the US in a lockdown,” said the US president. Trump had called on the press for an update on the accelerated development and distribution of a vaccine against corona, renamed Operation Warp Speed in the US.

He praised his own government, which has developed a vaccine at unprecedented speed. “At least five times faster than other governments,” Trump said. He pointed in particular to the vaccine that the American Pfizer developed together with the German biotech company BioNTech.

Trump stated that patients at risk, the elderly, and healthcare workers will first get their turn once the vaccine gets the green light from the FDA drug agency. The government thinks that 20 million doses could already be distributed before the end of the year.

Trump predicted the vaccine will be available to the population in April. Moncef Slaoui, chief executive of Warp Speed, stated that every month 25 to 30 million people can receive a vaccine.

No vaccine for New York
For the time being, this does not apply to the state of New York. According to Trump, he does not receive a vaccine “for political reasons”. According to Trump, that state’s governor, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, has no faith in the vaccine. Republican Trump and Cuomo have been at odds for a long time.

Trump indirectly addressed the election. “Only time will tell who will take office in January,” he said after appearing to be almost out of line. “We are not going into lockdown,” he said. Moments later it was sounded that at least there would be no lockdown under his government. Trump did not answer questions from journalists at the end of the meeting.

Biden wins by a big lead
American media reported Friday after counting in the last two states that Democrat Joe Biden has won the election by a big lead.

For the time being, the incumbent president refuses to admit his election defeat. He says there has been widespread electoral fraud, but President Trump and his campaign team have not yet provided evidence.

Reuters news agency also announced on Friday that Joe Biden has brought in the state of Georgia, while President Trump would have won in North Carolina. As a result, Biden wins the elections with a large majority of 306 electors.
