TRUE OR FALSE. Fuel prices: in Occitania did the liter really drop below 2 euros as expected?

the essential
Fuel prices reportedly dropped significantly on Monday, March 14: about 30 cents for diesel and about ten cents for unleaded. Have the resorts really lowered their prices?

It’s been a crazy week. Petrol prices exceeded €2 a liter last week. Diesel fuel rose 25.8 cents in seven days, becoming even more expensive than unleaded 95 E10, which rose 15.8 cents. On Friday, the promise of the CEO of Leclerc filled motorists with hope: Michel-Edouard Leclerc announced for Monday March 14 a drop in diesel by 35 cents and unleaded 95 by 8-10 cents.

Prices have actually come down. “I confirm the reflux, of the order of 30 cents on diesel and around ten cents on lead-free”, he points out to Parisian Francis Pousse, president of gas stations (excluding supermarkets) at Mobilians, the automobile services union. “Distributors passed the drop very quickly, while in hypermarkets and supermarkets it was not the case at all”. However, mass distribution accounts for 63% of fuel sales in France.

To check whether service stations have applied the reduction, we compared the prices of diesel and unleaded 95 E10 on the government website prix-fuel.gouv.fr, on which the stations declare their prices. On Monday evening, we increased the prices for the rates updated to March 14th. Note that prices will change during the day on Tuesday.

Here is the situation department by department.

Ariege

Prices are low. Several large retailers still sell diesel between 2.20 and 2.30 euros per litre. Only Leclerc in Foix and Intermarché Pamiers have prices below 2 euros.

hear

Diesel remained expensive at some stations, but prices have come down. 95 E10 unleaded and diesel cost less than €2 at Esso Express and Total Access in Carcassonne; Esso Express to Narbonne; Intermarche Narbonne; Total access to Lézignan-Corbière; Leclerc Salles d’Aude (A9 motorway) and Dyneff in Axat.

Aveyron

The price drop seems well applied in the department. Unleaded petrol and 95 E10 are sold for less than 2 euros per litre. On Monday the two fuels were sold for less than 2 euros a liter at Esso Express in Decazeville; Leclerc at Onet-le-Château; Super U at Onet-le-Château; Intermarché in Rodez, Bozouls, Saint-Geniez-d’Olt and Viviez; Carrefour market in Luc-la-Primaube; Super U in Olemps; Total Saint Affrique.

Upper Garonne

Some of the petrol stations remain priced above €2 a litre. However, 95 diesel and lead-free E10s were sold for less than 2 euros at: Carrefour Labège, Portet and Purpan; Esso Express and Total Access Aucamville; Total access to Toulouse (bd de Suisse, route d’Espagne, route de Saint-Simon, avenue des Etats-Unis), Blagnac, Saint-Orens, Saint-Alban, Saint-Gaudens and Villeneuve-Tolosane; Esso Express to Portet, Toulouse (route de Narbonne) and Villefranche; Intermarché and Total Access Balma; Total Access Colomiers and Portet; Intermarché in Toulouse, Castanet-Tolosan, Ramonville, Cornebarrieu, Montgiscard, Pinsaguel, Pompertuzat, Venerque, Fonsorbes, Castelnau-d’Estretefonds and Merville, Villefranche; Carrefour market Auterive and Cugnaux; Super U Fonbeauzard. On the motorway, prices were under 2 euros at Total Port-Lauragais Sud and Dyneff Toulouse Sud (A61 motorway).

Gers

Refueling is a little cheaper in the Gers. Several stations have dropped below 2 euros per liter for diesel and 95 unleaded E10s since Monday: Total in Condom and Intermarché in Saint-Clar.

Quantity

To pay for diesel and unleaded 95 E10 at less than €2, go to Intermarché in Gourdon; Contact Leclerc and Carrefour in Gramat. A few stations had updated their prices on the government website on Monday evening.

Lot and Garonne

Pump prices are down in the department. As of Monday, fuel cost less than 2 euros at the Intermarché in Agen, Casteljaloux and Colayrac-Saint-Cirq; Total access to Boé, Le Passage and Tonneins; Marmanda Total; U Express to Brax.

High Pyrenees

Diesel and 95 E10 unleaded have fallen below 2 euros at Total Access in Tarbes, Lourdes and Argelès-Gazost; Total in Bazet and Sarrancolin; Esso Express Lourdes; Carrefour Lannemezan market.

Tarn

A liter of petrol sells for less than 2 euros at Esso Express in Castres; Total Express in Saix; Total in Lisle-sur-Tarn and Réalmont.

Tarn and Garonne

A few stations had updated their prices on Monday night. The 95 diesel and lead-free were sold for less than 2 euros by Leclerc Aussonne; Intermarché in Moissac, Montech and Valence-d’Agen; Total access to Montauban; Total in Realville.

If your petrol station is not listed, it either did not sell 95 lead-free diesel E10s for less than €2 a liter on Monday evening or did not update its rates on the government website. It should be noted again that from these price readings, prices may have changed on Tuesday.

In a highly volatile market, the barrel fell 5.12% to $106.90 on Monday. The decline in pump prices should continue. For the rest, everything depends on the evolution of the international situation.
