Tropical Cyclone Nigel to Bring Wind and Rain to Norway

(Bergensavisen) The last 24 hours have brought at times intense rain, before Thursday morning gave us better weather and the return of the sun.

At least for a little while.

For now, tropical cyclone Nigel is on its way, and will affect the weather in Norway next week, the Meteorologists on X/Twitter warn.

– This will lead to wind and rain in Western and Central Norway, they write further.

Meteorologist Susana Reuder explains to BA that it is currently difficult to say anything precise about the cyclone, but that it will probably appear along the Westland coast as early as Sunday evening.

– I see that it is quite extensive on that front, so it will affect both southern and northern Norway. There is a big chance that it will eventually come as a strong low pressure, says Reuder.

Hold on to your hat

The meteorologist emphasizes the uncertainty, and follows the US hurricane center NHC, but says anyway that the people of Bergen can expect a wet start to next week.

– It will be quite a wet Monday here in Western Norway … very wet. The wind can rise to a stiff to strong gale. It will be both rainy and windy, emphasizes the meteorologist.

Yr is currently reporting around 30 mm of rain on Monday, but Reuder believes there will be more.

– The cyclone will hit us, there is a very high probability of that, and we do not rule out danger warnings in connection with the storm.

This is how the weekend will be

Reuder warns that Friday will probably be the best day of the week, with changing cloud cover and mostly dry weather.

But from Friday evening, precipitation is expected, with shower activity on Saturday.

– On Sunday there is scattered rain, and winds from the south-west to a fresh breeze. But it increases from the afternoon onwards. As the front belonging to the tropical storm begins to approach, it increases with wind and precipitation.
