Reinhold Würth turned a two-man business into a global corporation and became one of the richest people in the world. The secret of the success of the Würth screw empire: sales.

Salespeople have long been rewarded with a bonus system within the company. But retired managers can also look forward to an exclusive club.

In an interview with “Zeit”, the billionaire explained what the Würthary Club is all about, with which he traveled to New York, for example.

Reinhold Würth is a billionaire and is one of the richest people in the world. He expanded the Würth screw dealer from a two-man business into an international market leader that today employs more than 87,000 people. Sales in 2022 were around 20 billion euros.

The key to the success of the screw empire is the distribution that brings the products to customers. In 2022, 33,000 people were employed in sales. To create incentives and reward performance, they receive cars, commissions and – if they are good enough – access to two exclusive clubs. These clubs for the top 15 percent of salespeople attract travel and money.

These bonus systems have been around for a long time. But not only active employees are rewarded, but also those who no longer work: not everyone can afford nice trips, even in retirement – unless you were a manager at the Würth Group. In an interview with the “Time” the billionaire explained what the Würthary Club is all about.

Performance is not forgotten even in retirement: the Würthary Club

Würth began working for the family business early on (he took over management at the age of 19) and landing orders – but his father was sparing with praise. “That’s why I’m quick to express my admiration for an achievement today,” said Würth.

That is also the reason for the Würthary Club: an exclusive club for company managers who have retired. The businessman goes on a trip with them and their wives twice a year. For example to New York.

“The active managers also see this and are happy that they will not be forgotten when they retire,” says the company patriarch.

Sea Northdata The club is registered as an association in Switzerland and serves to “organize meetings and gatherings to attend or hold artistic and cultural events, in particular concerts, operas, literary readings for former managing directors of the Würth Group, in order to promote the Würth mission statement preserve and pass on.”
