Trial of a “blue night” in Corsica in 2019, the role of the mechanic discussed

Au “blue night” trial in Corse in 2019, the Paris court yesterday examined the role of a young mechanic, accused of having helped to steal the vehicles found at the scene of the damage, which he denies.

On the night of March 9-10, 2019, fires or explosions damaged empty second homes at four sites: Piana, Penta di Casinca, Patrimonio and Ville di Pietrabugno.

Near each site (except in Piana), a Renault Mégane was found burnt out. According to the prosecution, they were used to transport the gas canisters deposited in the targeted villas and apartments. One of them would also have been used in the theft of ten gas bottles, a month earlier.

However, during a search of the garage of Ghjilormu Garelli near Borgo, in September 2019, the investigators found a pirated version of the Renault Clip Tool software.

This diagnostic tool can also be used to reprogram the immobilizer system and would therefore constitute “a functional tool kit for theft of Renault brand vehicles”according to an expert.

In view of “your closeness” with the three main defendants, whose DNA was found at two of the targeted sites, “you appeared to be likely an individual who had the technical knowledge to help steal” these three cars, summarized the president of the court.

“I have never stolen a car, neither in Bastia, nor in Timbuktu, nor in Paris”

Now 24 years old, Ghjilormu Garelli assures us that he only used this software to confirm fault diagnoses. He described the expert’s findings as“hypothesis” which has not been demonstrated.

According to the prosecution, the exploitation of his telephone line also shows that he could have participated, in February 2019, in the theft of the car then used to steal gas cylinders a few days later.

“I have never stolen a car, neither in Bastia, nor in Timbuktu, nor in Paris”he assures.

Already convicted twice for illegal possession of weapons, he is being prosecuted this time for “terrorist criminal association”.

Adrien Matarise, André-François Maraninchi, Julien Muselli, whom he frequented within the Bastia 1905 football supporters club, are tried for “damage to property in connection with a terrorist enterprise”, “terrorist association of criminals” and “manufacture explosive devices”.

A fifth man responds to the illegal detention of an automatic pistol and a 29-year-old woman to have given a mobile phone to Julien Muselli in detention.

The trial is scheduled to last until April 20.
