Trial in Vienna after attacking joggers in London

A jury court at the Viennese regional court had to deal with a brutal attack on a jogger in London on Wednesday. A young Austrian who lived as a homeless person in the English capital is said to have attacked a completely unknown man with a broken glass bottle on April 12, 2020 and seriously injured the jogger in the neck and head area. The public prosecutor assumes that the attacker acted with killing intent.

However, according to a psychiatric report, the young Austrian suffers from severe paranoid schizophrenia and was therefore not sane at the time of the crime. As a result, he is charged with attempted murder due to his lack of culpability. Instead, the prosecution has applied for his placement in an institution for mentally abnormal lawbreakers. The English authorities had left the prosecution to the Viennese judiciary. The presidium of the regional court imposed a ban on photography and filming in the courtroom for the hearing.
