Tri-State Area Under Winter Storm Warning with Forecasted Accumulations of Up to 12 Inches

A winter storm warning will remain in effect in the tri-state area for the next few hours as precipitation approaches, which is estimated to leave the largest snow accumulations of the season.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning that will go into effect Monday afternoon and remain in effect until Tuesday afternoon.

According to the forecast, heavy snow is expected with accumulations of between 5 and 8 inches in areas such as northeastern New Jersey and New York City.

Although in some areas of the tri-state area it is expected that the accumulations could reach a foot high.

Stephanie Viés, meteorologist for Los Guardianes del Tiempo, estimated that in areas of Long Island and Orange County accumulations close to 12 inches can be expected.

“We are going to have snow accumulation between early Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon, between 6 and 12 inches are expected, although we will be closer to six, there are areas in central and northern Long Island with more than 12 inches, the same areas of northwest New Jersey,” he explained.

“While in the city and surrounding areas we are talking about 3 to 6 inches or 6 to 12,” he said.

This will bring complications for drivers, especially on Tuesday morning.

“We are going to expect complications in the morning, especially when traveling to work because those are the times when we are going to have snow from 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning until noon,” explained Viés.

In addition to the snow, strong gusts of wind are expected with speeds of about 40 miles per hour.

Recommendations for driving in the snow:

New York state authorities issued a series of recommendations for driving during the winter storm.

• Do not drive unless necessary.

• If you must travel, make sure your car is equipped with survival gear such as blankets, a shovel, a flashlight and extra batteries, extra warm clothing, a set of tire chains, battery booster cables, quick energy foods, and drop cloths. bright colors to use as an emergency.
