Travel Blogger’s Controversial Experience at Lofoten Accommodation Goes Viral on TikTok

– This is the worst place I have ever lived, says the Australian travel blogger in a video on the social media app TikTok.

With 3.6 million followers, Tiktok celebrity Jorden Tually makes a living traveling the world, producing videos where he tells about his experiences.

In the videos, he takes his followers on, among other things, snorkelling in Dubai, eating tarantella in Mexico City, hiking in Pakistan and milking horses in Kyrgyzstan.

This summer, one of the destinations was Lofoten, one of Norway’s most popular tourist areas. However, things did not go quite as expected for Tually and his companions when they arrived at the accommodation.

Aftenposten mentioned the matter first.

– Wanted a confrontation

The travel party had booked a cabin for two people, but the plans were changed and there were therefore three people who arrived in Lofoten. Thus, they needed an extra sleeping place.

Then the problems started, according to the travel blogger.

The owner of the place is said not to have liked the idea of an extra bed, and there is said to have been a dispute about the payment. After a while, the Australian tourists got what they wanted in return for paying extra.

In the Tiktok video, Tually claims the owner yelled at them before he finally relented. The experience led Tually and the traveling party to give the accommodation a rating of 6 out of 10 on the website Booking.com.

In the review, they described the campsite as a nice place, but that it wasn’t worth it and that they probably won’t stay there again.

– The owner of the place was very strict and seemed like he wanted a confrontation, Tually wrote in a comment on the website.

Three days later they received a phone call from the owner asking them to come back.

When the Australians arrived, the conversation ended in an argument, with the owner finally asking them to leave.

– What do you write about me? we hear the owner say in the video recording.

– Leave the area quickly, now I know who you are, he says in conclusion.

– The film does not give a true picture

Nettavisen has contacted the owner of the cabin and camping site.

In an email, he responds as follows about the criticism:

– Running a campsite with people from all over the world can be challenging at times. From time to time, conflicts arise that must be dealt with quickly. In this case, it concerned the customer’s unwillingness to comply with the rules we have, including demands for payment for the stay.

Furthermore, the campsite host claims that the video does not give a correct picture of the situation.

Believes the video challenges privacy

To Aftenposten tells Tually that the purpose behind the publication was “to save people from such experiences”. When asked about the owner’s privacy, the Tiktoker replies that he chose to blur the face in the video.

– The phone was in my hand the whole time and I had to film as I knew he would get physical and potentially attack my friends or myself.

Tiktok expert Carina Elise Godou tells Aftenposten that the video challenges privacy as both the owner and location of the space are easily identifiable. Among other things, because several comments under the video name the place.

Lawyer Jon Wessel-Aas believes that a business must tolerate customers reporting publicly how they have been treated.

– As it appears, he has threatened these guests, without them having done anything other than express criticism of his customer treatment, he says to Aftenposten.

He points out, however, that it can be problematic that the owner has not been given the opportunity to simultaneously respond in the video.
