Travel advice not tightened up: Dutch people can still leave northern Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced large-scale quarantine measures on the night of Saturday to Sunday due to the corona virus. Be like that quarantine several provinces. This means that 16 million people are restricted in their freedom of movement.

The ministry advises all Dutch people in the region to follow the advice of the local authorities. It is not known how many Dutch people are staying in northern Italy. The current travel advice – not to travel to northern Italy – remains in force but is not being tightened any further.

Italy is the country most affected in Europe. Nearly six thousand people have been infected, 233 people have died from the effects of the corona virus.

The Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said today that Italy should prohibit all its inhabitants from traveling to European countries.

According to Babis, the Czech Republic cannot prohibit Italians from traveling to the country because of the Schengen Convention. It states that in principle people are no longer checked at the border and there is free movement of people between countries that have signed the treaty. The Czech Republic and Italy are among them, as are 24 other European countries such as the Netherlands, Germany and France.
