Transport: Special SBB wagons for mask wearers? – Swiss

SBB is studying the introduction of wagons in which wearing a mask would be compulsory. They launched a survey of their customers on Wednesday to get a better idea of the effects of the coronavirus on mobility behavior.

The survey, launched Wednesday, is aimed at some 200 customers. It has not yet given results, nor led to trends, said Thursday a spokesman for the former federal agency to Keystone-ATS, confirming information from the site blick.ch.

The survey aims to identify possible measures that SBB could take. One of the questions concerns the introduction of special wagons in which the wearing of a mask would be compulsory. She asked customers if they would take the train more or less often if such an offer were to exist.

“Feel the pulse”

Another question concerns a general obligation to wear a mask. “We want to get a clear picture and feel the pulse of what concerns people,” said the spokesperson. He refused to speculate on the results of the survey and said that the SBB will not act alone.

On the one hand, the company must comply with the recommendations of the Confederation. On the other hand, the rules and prescriptions in terms of behavior should ideally be the same for all public transport companies, so as not to cause confusion among customers.

Recommended mask

Mask wearers are currently a small minority on trains. SBB boss Vincent Ducrot estimated a week ago that there are still efforts to be made to comply with the protection rules, in particular wearing a mask in the event of heavy traffic.

The protection concept presented at the end of April by the SBB and PostBus encourages passengers to wear protective masks if the minimum distance of two meters cannot be respected. He also calls for limiting his trips to what is strictly necessary and avoiding peak hours as much as possible. (ats / Le Matin)
