It’s proven. Coronavirus can be transmitted from a mother to her fetus through the umbilical cord.
Previous research has suggested the possibility of mother-to-child transmission during or after childbirth. Today, scientists are proving that the virus can be transmitted in-utero, via the placenta. A French study published in the journal Nature Communications reveals that the analysis of the blood samples from a mother who gave birth to a baby boy last March and who carries Covid-19, confirms the theory. The infant had severe symptoms similar to those described in an adult patient. And the virus has been found in significant quantities in the placenta, amniotic fluid, maternal blood, cord blood and postnatal.
