Transition: the African Union commits to supporting Gabon – AGP

Libreville, 27 November 2023 (AGP) –
The President of the Transition, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, received, this Monday, November 27, a delegation from the African Union, led by Mohamed Ibn Chambas, High Representative of the President of the African Union Commission, which expressed the commitment of the said organization to supporting the Transition process in Gabon, reports a press release from the presidency received by the AGP.

“Doctor Mohamed Ibn Chambas welcomed the progress and the inclusive and participatory nature of the Transition, and expressed the desire of the institution to effectively support the Gabonese people and their authorities in this process, while strongly emphasizing that Gabon remains a member of the African Union.

To this end, the AU Representative announced the upcoming provision of a panel of experts, in order to carry out this Transition which could serve as a model,” the press release indicates.

At the end of their discussions, the Head of State and his host said they were “ready to revitalize this cooperation between the African Union and Gabon”.

This meeting was an opportunity for the envoy of the AU Commission to convey to the Head of State the fraternal greetings of Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, president of the Commission of the said institution, and to inquire about the contours , objectives and roadmap of the CTRI.

This meeting takes place as part of a series of discussions initiated by the institution with the Gabonese authorities, following the events of August 30, marked by the takeover of power by the Defense and Security Forces gathered within the Committee for Transition and restoration of institutions.
