From this Monday, and until August 25, work on the tram rails will take place in the Terrasse district, where the rails and infrastructure will be replaced over a length of approximately 200 meters.

This work required the development, on Sunday, of a temporary turnaround area (also called Californian switch), as there had been one in Bergson during the construction of the third tram line.

The advantage of double cabin trainsets

For nearly two months, the trams will therefore leave the Saint-Priest depot, pass through La Terrasse and take the main street on the left lane. At 5 km/h, for safety reasons, the switch will then allow them to switch to the right lane and attack the long straight in the direction of Bellevue.

In the opposite direction, the trams will descend by the normal route, on the right. Arrived at the turnaround area, they will cross it at a walk, advance a few tens of meters. The wattman will stop and then change driving position. From the front, it will pass to the rear and can set off again in the opposite direction.

Before 2017 and the arrival of trains with double driving cabins, this practice was impossible: the tram had to turn around on a turnaround area as there are at La Terrasse and Bellevue, and formerly at Manu…

A replacement bus on portions of T1 and T3

Remember that during the time of this work, the T1 line only runs between Solaure and the Cité du design. From there, travelers must take an alternative bus, the T1 B, to continue towards and to the North Hospital.

Line T3 runs from Bellevue to the Quartier Grouchy stop. Here too, travelers wishing to continue to La Terrasse and the North hospital must jump on the T1 B bus. However, the T2 line is completely interrupted throughout the construction period. The replacement bus takes the same route as the tram. It is therefore taken near the usual tram stops.

The specialized company TSO is in charge of the site. Work on the ground but also aerial work to install cables which are certainly temporary but essential for the catenaries of the tram to capture the current on this sensitive passage.
