Trains are almost back to normal after yesterday’s heavy failure

The trains are running almost normally again after the major technical failure of yesterday, says NS. The outage had already been resolved yesterday, but due to the aftermath it was not yet possible to restart train traffic.

“Here and there a train can be slightly longer or shorter or a different train will arrive than you are used to,” said NS spokesman Arno Leblanc in the statement. NOS Radio 1 News† “But as you can see here at Utrecht Central Station, everything seems to be going quite well.”

According to him, the timetable is a major logistical puzzle. “Last night all kinds of trains and staff were in places where you don’t want them at that moment. It was not reliable to be able to start that. So it was decided not to do that and to get everything in order tonight, so that we can now good start.

The cause of the outage is under investigation. NS has no indications that it has been hacked.

From 12.00 o’clock

Yesterday the malfunction in the computer systems arose around 12 noon. The NS expected that the problems would be solved around 5 p.m., but that was later adjusted to 8 p.m. Later on it became clear that there would be no more train traffic that day.

The system affected by the outage makes schedules for trains and staff. Before train traffic could start again, the system had to be updated and the trains had to be brought to the right place.

With girlfriend

Last night some night trains were running again. Buses have been used on other routes. That was not a solution for everyone.

A woman who had been to a friend Alkmaar wanted to take the train home at 8.30 pm. “Then there were no more trains. Then I went back to my girlfriend and spent the night there.” The bus was not a solution: “It would have been a very long journey with five transfers”.
