Train derailed at Røros station

The case is being updated.

Press guard in Bane Nor, Britt-Johanne Wang, tells Adresseavisen that there were four passengers and three employees on board when the train derailed.

– It was completely undramatic. Everyone who was on board was transported safely and well to the waiting room at Røros Station, says Wang. She explains that the train derailed at a level crossing inside the station itself, and that it therefore became a simple rescue process.

Ice on the rails

SJ’s commercial director, Lena Angela Nesteby, says that it was probably the storm that caused the accident.

– We do not know exactly what the cause is, but probably there was too much ice on the rails. It is bad weather, ice and snow, which has settled like a foil on the rails so that the rails lost their grip, says Nesteby.

She says that alternative transport has been set up for travelers on the train route.

Rescue train on the way

A rescue train was sent from Oslo around 6 pm on Saturday night.

– Now a crew has moved out from Oslo which is expected to be in Røros at midnight. They will move the train and check if there is any damage to the track. As it is Saturday night, we do not hope that this will have any major consequences for travelers in local traffic, says Wang in Bane Nor.

Work will be done on salvage during the night, so that train traffic can follow the regular timetable on Sunday morning.
