Three young people died and two others were seriously injured in a spectacular road accident in Lakewood Township (New Jersey) that was so violent that two vehicles broke apartauthorities said.
The accident occurred at 2:20 a.m. Saturday when a Honda car ran a red light and collided with a truck at the intersection of Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire avenues, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
That car, which had five occupants, left the road and crashed into a metal traffic signal post, breaking into two parts. The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, and another occupant later died from his injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The deceased were later identified as Jayla M. Ortiz (23), and Ceasia Jefferson and Dashaun Witter, both 17, according to Patch.com.
The accident caused the truck to overturn and also split in two. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The other two passengers in the car were detained in critical condition.reported NJ.com. Only one of them has been identified by authorities: Alexis Holloway, 23 years old.
