Tragic news shocked Australia: a 9-month-old girl drowned in the bathtub while her father was surfing Facebook, foreign media reports.
Daniel James Gallagher left his little girl, Leah Jane, alone in the bathtub for about seven minutes while he went to have a smoke and browsed Facebook. The child was only nine months old.
When he returned to the bathroom, he found the girl “floating face down” in the bathtub full of water. The father called 911 and attempted CPR himself while waiting for the paramedics to arrive. Unfortunately unsuccessful. The child was pronounced dead when she was taken to Harvey Bay Hospital. Prosecutor Chris Cook estimated Gallagher left Lea alone for about seven minutes.
DD Gallagher, 26, was sentenced to five years in prison, which was reduced to 15 months after he pleaded guilty to murdering his daughter, mirror.co.uk reports. Leah’s death comes just a few days after a similar incident, when her dad left her alone in a bathtub filled with 10-12 centimeters of water at their home in Queensland, Australia, The Sun reports.
