Traffic Restrictions Lifted and Two-Lane Section of Dzirnavu Street Opened

The builders inform that the existing traffic restrictions at the Dzirnavu Street railway overpass will be lifted and the two-lane section of the street will be opened to traffic.

On the other hand, pedestrian movement during the construction of the new railway overpass will be organized in safe and demarcated pedestrian areas.

At the same time, the builders indicate that the works will continue in the area of Dzirnavu street, and within the next month “BeReRix” will improve the pedestrian sidewalk areas, thereby expanding the roadable part of the street and redirecting pedestrians to the future planned sidewalk area, but also in a simplified version of the sidewalk.

Complete completion of the profile of Dzirnavu street is planned in the next construction phase, when the railway overpass on the northern side will be built.

Also, the builders point out that, upon completion of the construction work on the railway overpass in the area of Lāčplēša Street, the builders will no longer restrict traffic on Lāčplēša Street at night from November 3rd.

It has already been reported that on Saturday, November 4, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic will be closed on the section of Dzirnavu Street from Satekles Street to Turgeneva Street, as well as planned changes in certain public transport routes.

After the implementation of the project, the entrance to the railway platforms will be located on the eastern side of the railway crossing, except for the entrance to the “Rail Baltica” platforms, which will still be on the station side. From Dzirnavu Street to Riga Central Railway Station and Lāčplēša Street in the other direction, people with visual impairments will be guided by a tactile lane in the future. A bicycle path will be built parallel to the railway.
